"This review is based an a very low cost item. So when considering price to value ratio I consider it a worthwhile investment. There are other models and your mileage may vary. this review is for the METAL version. I have not owned the Vox brand, so I can't compare them, however I can purchase three of these for the price of one of those!

The build is very nice. All the controls work well and there are definite changes in volume, tone, and gain when utilized.
The guitar jack is sturdy and fits the guitar well. there is no static or breaking up when the amp moves around.
The headphone 3.5mm jack is solid, and the stereo mix 3.5mm input jack works as it should as well.
The mix input volume is controlled by your mp3 or radio and is a pass through straight to the headphones .
Utilizing the amps controls and your instrument's controls you can get an almost clean sound to a very grungy metal sound.
I was surprised at the volume of the unit. It is not ear drum breaking loud, but it gets close enough for my taste.
As with any unit of this type it will start to hiss a bit when cranked up especially if the gain is set at max as well.
This unit seems to be designed for the fender style surface angled jacks,as it would lay nicely against the body when plugged in.

Now the bad...this isn't a deal breaker, but immediately throw away the cheapo batteries that come with it and put in fresh alkaline.
The batteries that came with mine were almost dead and made it sound horrible. (So horrible I was immediately disappointed.)
The only other minor issue is that my guitar jack is on the bottom edge of my guitar's body and the amp tends to spin around in circles, and is also in a position that could allow damage if I set it on my leg, or against the chair. In this position the control wheels are facing down and easily spun by a rub across a chair. I may build a short male/female extension guitar cable to plug it into to get it away from the guitar.

Overall I am pleased, and believe I got what I paid for."

"I have several other Joyo products that I really like for the prices I paid, but I had to send this back. It just wasn’t very usable. It only sounded ok in the bridge position and too boomy in the necks. Tried in several guitars with passive pickups, but it only sounded good in with my EMG KH-BBs. Even then, only bridge sounded good. Neck was too boomy. I got the Vox Metal, and it is so much better for the extra $30. Again, I generally like Joyo products at the prices."
